Thursday, January 11 will be the first day of semester exams. On Thursday, January 11, English/Language Arts, Art and Foreign Languages Semester Exams will be given. On Friday, January 12, Math, Technology and All Band, Music and Theater Semester Exams will be given. On Tuesday, January 16, Science, Social Studies, Health and Physical Education Semester Exams will be given. If there is a delay on any of these days, semester exams will still be given as planned. The Eastern Greenbrier Science Fair will be held on Wednesday, January 17

To address Delays and/or School Closures on Semester Exam Days:
If schools are closed on an exam day, the exams will be moved to the next day. In other words, we will just back up one day for all exams.
If we have a delay on any of the exam days, the student will complete as much as they can, during the shortened period, on the exam day and then they will complete the rest of the exam on the next day, in that class, that is not a Semester Exam day.


Planning is underway for the 2024-2025 school calendar! We invite parents, students, staff, and community members to complete a brief online school calendar survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/K8NC79M. The survey closes on Friday, January 19. Calendar options and a planning guide are available at https://www.greenbriercountyschools.org/page/school-calendar-planning. GCS will host a public forum regarding the calendar on February 13 at 5:30 p.m. and March 12 at 5:30 p.m. at the Kyle & Ann Fort Arts & Sciences Building on the New River CTC campus. The 2023-2024 school calendar will be presented for approval at the regular meeting of the board of education on March 12.

Due to inclement weather, Greenbrier County Schools will release students three hours early today, Monday, December 18. Students will depart school three hours earlier than their regularly scheduled release time.


Eastern Greenbrier Middle School held its Annual Holiday Door Decorating Contest this week. Congratulations to the following classes for winning a hot chocolate party during lunch next Monday, Dec. 18th: Ms. Hancock’s 6th Grade Homebase, Ms. Stankunas’ 7th Grade Homebase, and Mrs. Henderson’s 8th Grade Homebase.
The following classes received special recognition from the judges:
Ms. Gray’s homebase won the “Holiday Spirit” Award, Ms. O’Brien’s homebase won the “Busiest Little Elves” Award, Mr. Anderson’s homebase won the “Smart Cookie” Award, and Ms. Massie’s homebase won the “Swiss Miss” Award.
